luggage

I have been told different things by friends who have done the South Africa Elegant Adventure. The website states luggage is limited to 44 pounds. However, friends have told us that it is possible to pack a small bag for the flights and Tauck stores your bigger bags. What has been the experience of those who have done this tour recently?

Tauck will send you a duffle bag for safari travel. Make sure your main rollerboard/suitcase doesn't exceed 44 pounds. Leave your prom dress at home and be sure to have fun! Top 3 tours for us!

I can’t remove whether it was Johannesburg Cape Town airport, but we had a bag that was just over the weight limit, the other was way under, they made us take stuff out and put it in the other bag.

British, I believe it was flying from Capetown to Sabi Sabi on Airlink. They are very strict on weight and balance when it comes to flying domestically.

No safari duffle bag is provided for this tour - Elegant Adventure. The weight limit was enforced. I took this trip in October.

Goddess, we took the Elegant Adventure tour May of 2024 and a Tauck duffle bag was shipped to everyone in our group. Perhaps Tauck has changed their protocol since we were on that particular tour. It's a lovely duffle, khaki green with Tauck's logo on the side, and we continue to use it! You're correct on airline luggage weight limit when traveling on Airlink, it was strictly enforced.

no duffle for us, so something changed between May 2024 and October 2025 -
we did get a Tauck printed neck buff/gaiter on the tour!

Love those neck gaiters, Goddess! They are definitely multipurpose!👍

I gave mine away - won't be taking another safari any time soon.

We use our neck gaiters a lot, we’ve had several each for years. Useful for keeping the sun off our necks, Best of all, if I’m carrying a big camera/ and or binocular around my neck, they make a great cushioning of the straps so it does not cut into your neck. So not just safaris but many different types of tours.

Great - haven't found a need for them in my life. Don't carry cameras or binoculars and I don't worry about the sun.

Goddess, we look so young because we keep protected from the sun 😂😀😀

If you say so! I'd rather use a hat, if necessary.

Don’t know about in South Africa, but in East Africa the neck gaiters were primarily used as dust guards (easily pulled up to cover your nose and mouth) during the game drives, not sun protection.

Wasn't much dust on our game drives.
