  • One restaurant Michael, our tour director recommended was called Ginza Sanada. It was know for their soba noodle bowls although they had many other items on the menu. It was walking distance from the hotel. Another one was Kura with the sushi train. Not the best quality, but a fun place to try. We also tried a ramen place at the train station that was recommended. We also spent a day at Tokyo Disney and tried some fun food there. Hope this helps.

  • Hi Mimi. Any suggestions about Disney Sea. Headed there March 6.

  • bourgeon1 - You will love Disney Sea! Try to get there at least an hour before opening to avoid waiting in the long entry line. We pre-purchased our tickets which saved a little time, but we still had to wait about 45 min to enter. They have a few different characters there such as Duffy and friends. Also, check out the many different popcorn buckets as they are really adorable and great collectibles (and you can only get them there ) When we bring them to Disney back home, many people ask about them. They have many more interesting popcorn flavors there which are worth a try. Also, it's worth trying some of their snacks. Our favorite was the little green mochi balls, (sold at Yukatan base area) You will notice that many guests come in dressed in twin outfits as the Duffy characters.. And the guests will get up and sing and dance along with Mickey and Minnie during the shows. So funny. Check out the rides on the website. There are many that are unique to Japan. We mostly loved walking around and seeing the park and the people. People in Japan were very kind to us and the city was spotless! Hope this helped. Enjoy your trip!

  • On one of my tours to Japan our hotel was in the Shiodome area, near the Advertising Museum, full of fun Japanese graphics (https://www.admt.jp/en/). In Kyoto the big Nishiki market is a must-see; try to catch the mochi-making demonstrations. Have a great time.

  • Another tip is to get the prepaid IC card in the airport before exiting. It comes in handy to use for trains, vending and some food options.

  • Just wondering which airport does Tauck "take" you to at the end of the tour

  • The tour page tells you where the tour ends.

  • We flew out of the Osaka airport. I think Tauck would provide transport to one of the other airports as well, but you should verify with Tauck before booking air.

  • If your tour ends in Kyoto, they will take you to either KIX or ITM (your choice). Please note, however, that if your flight departs out of Tokyo it will be your responsibility to get there from Kyoto.

  • Carol - we took this trip last October. For the free time before the tour started at dinner, we walked the Imperial Gardens and took a tour of the Imperial Palace Grounds (free ticket needed in advance, can reserve on line). Also went to the Tokyo Art Aquarium located in the Ginza Mitsukoshi dept store. Fabulous and unique exhibit. We bought tickets on site. Well worth the visit. We took the train from hotel to Ginza using the Welcome Suica card (which is very convenient).!

  • Tauck will also pay for a taxi to the Kyoto train station, if you continue your journey on your own.

  • If you want to step out of your comfort zone, Japan is the safest place to do it.
Some incredible spots are just a short cab ride away—like our recent 2024 trip to Uji (famed for its tea) from our Kyoto hotel.
We explored the exquisite Byodo-in Temple while the wisteria was in full bloom. A hidden gem right on the temple grounds was Tea Salon TOKA, where they serve chilled Sencha in a wine glass. It was unforgettable; the rich umami and delicate aroma truly showcased Uji tea's exceptional quality.
