Inter Europe seat reservations
We have two interEurope flight reservations. Does Tauck help make seat reservations for these or do we have to try to do it on our own?

It depends on a few variables. Mainly which airline(s) and what class service you requested. With Business Class, Premium or Economy Comfort on Delta we've always picked our seats but economy you won't have much control over it other than window/aisle preferences. Some airlines won't let Tauck book specific seats again mainly due to class of service.
FYI, there is something called European Business Class which is often a plane with all economy seats but the first few rows the middle seat is blocked out.
If they are flights that Tauck arranged as part of the itinerary, they take care of seat assignments. If you booked the flights, you make the seat arrangements.
Goddess, Tauck does not always take care of the seat assignments. We are on the Blue Danube River cruise this summer with connecting flights to/from Frankfurt. I had to handle the seat assignments for those two legs. The connecting flights are with a partner airline, which may have been the reason that I had to handle the seat assignments.
Were these flights included as part of Tauck's itinerary? If so, Tauck takes care of seats. They have on any trip I've taken where flights were part of itinerary.
Tauck made the flight arrangements. I had to handle the seating. There may be differences depending on which airline you are using.
I do not have experience with on-tour flights. Whenever I have flown to Europe and have had to make a connecting flight from one European city to another European city, Tauck handled all aspects, including seat selection based on my preferences, whether flying the same airline or not. Granted, I always book well in advance. Perhaps that has something to do with it.
Rhonelover - If you already have reservations made by Tauck, you should have been given seat assignments based on your preferences. Maybe you can offer more information for a more definitive answer. Good luck to you.
Tauck making your flight arrangements and included flights on Tauck tours are two different things. If flights are included as part of Tauck's itinerary, Tauck takes care of seats.
On our first Tauck tour we booked economy flights with Tauck NYC - Paris round trip. Tauck gave seat assignments but warned in the paperwork that they couldn't guarantee them. All flights we've booked with them had the same warning. On both flights the airline changed our seats but they actually ended up better.
Rhonelover, I see what the above poster means. Are the flights you talk about part of a tour? If they are, you are not able to choose your seats, Tauck assigns them to you. They are usually basic economy seats.
I rarely book my air through Tauck anymore. They don't have access to all flights or all classes of service. I found better schedules and better prices doing it on my own.
Yes, they don’t have access to all airlines or schedules, but they can book those others for you if you pay upfront and it counts as a Tauck booking.
I work with a travel agent. Tauck has confirmed airline changes without my approval, leading to some horrid outcomes that took hours to undo.
Many airlines do this these days, it is out of Tauck’s hands too. I anticipate nightmares going forward because of the upcoming flight cancellations. We have a flight via Doha later in the year, right now, we are hanging on. Few other options for us, so might have to cancel a tour.
We don’t know a travel agent. There’s days we mostly book through Amex platinum concierge service. They have helped us when last minute cancellations have happened.
Concur about the on tour flights based on our Scandinavia tour. Copenhagen to Oslo on SAS with the group spread all thru out the economy section. Spouses we mostly together. Worst flight we've had in awhile - and we often fly SW. Even SW gives you sodas for free.
I have had seat assignments for a flight that I check regularly and when I checked them the night before a flight, they were scrambled. This happened at the check in counter at SFO going to DOHA. We were originally assigned a quad suite (4 seats) two facing one another for my family traveling to Africa and the ticket agent scrambled them all up! We were also all first in line to check in. Don’t ask me how that happens, but it does. Then when I asked about it, they said it was in the rules of carriage ( in legal words if course) that seats can be changed. There wasn’t anything I was able to do about it but I know what happened. The ticket agent had a preference to another family.
Yes, airlines make changes and it is up to you to confirm the changes. When Tauck confirms changes without passenger approval, that is not how it is supposed to work.
If Tauck books your flight, you can’t change anything, they have to do it. When we have used them, they inform us
Tauck booked the flight and didn't inform me of the change. I found the change, confirmed there was a better way with the airline and got Tauck to change it to MY preference. Since that fiasco, I don't use Tauck to book flights anymore.
Airlines are constantly tweaking their schedules by changing flight times, flight numbers, adding / deleting scheduled flights. It's the new norm and the traveling public is (reluctantly) learning how to adapt. It becomes unpleasant / inconvenient when you have to be at a particular place on a certain day and time when your flight cancels.
Working for the airline industry for 35 years and traveling, we go early so we're in place when the tour starts......it gives you peace of mind knowing you're there.
We make our own reservations and don't rely on 2nd or 3rd parties to create our flying schedules.
The few times an airline has made a change to our flights, Tauck has notified us and has always served as our advocate.
Notifying your customer should be part of the experience. When it isn't, I look elsewhere. For what Tauck charges and that it prides itself on service, this was a huge let down. The airline agreed with me that the change should have never been approved as the connection would not have been made. They have since revised their 'legal' connection time at the airport in question.
I always - book my flights. My first tour with Tauck did include an internal flight and those seat assignments were random. However, I realized it was with a star alliance airline, so I gave them my number during the checkin. We still ended up in economy, and based on my status we ended up with an empty seat between us, group 1 boarding, priority tags (not that makes a difference). I wish, that Tauck would ask for about airline loyalty numbers on internal flights and include that in my profile, but the airline did the right thing.
Great idea!
Yes, whenever I check in at the counter, I remind them of my frequent flyer number to ensure the mileage is credited to my account. I also keep all boarding passes just in case the mileage is not credited. That only happened once, but the correction was swift since I retained the boarding pass.
Tauck’s air department also has them on file. When you load your flight information into your profile, you can add your frequent flyer information, unless that has changed since I last flew.
Getting credit depends on the airlines. Because I don't have the TICKET receipt, just the boarding pass from my last internal flight, Delta is denying credit.......................Tauck might have frequent flyer numbers on file, but so far they have never added them to any of my internal flights, I've always had to request credit after the fact.
