Pre-cruise hotel availability for gift of time
We just booked a river cruise for May 2027 and Tauck said the pre-cruise hotel had no more availability, but they would try to get a room for us. The river cruise is not yet fully booked. The trip is more than a year out and the online hotel booking for our date is not yet even available for the public. We cannot use the gift of time hotel allowance at the end of our cruise. I maintained that it is possible for Tauck to accommodate us pre-cruise by either buying more rooms ad hoc, or else putting us up at another hotel near the cruise hotel.
Has anyone had this situation?

The GOT rooms are subject to availability. Not being able to take advantage of the GOT offer has happened to me, but I was able to secure a room in the Tauck hotel on my own. I learned the hard way to book really early with Tauck for their tours and GOT rooms, especially as a solo.
Yes once many years ago. We booked another hotel. Tauck does state subject to availability. We mostly book tours almost two years in advance
we booked way in advance, but even then it took for-ev-er to get Tauck to confirm our gift of time.
I know a year away sees like a long time but not necessarily with river cruise bookings. As Goddess said, they don't have unlimited availability. Stay on the waiting list but look for alternatives. Worst case you might have to pay for one of the transfers - probably a cab or Uber from that hotel to either the tour hotel in time for the group to go to the ship or directly to the ship. We have had times where we had to wait weeks to confirm we had a GoT room.
Correct, Sherill. The GOT is not necessarily confirmed at the time you make your tour reservation. Bit my guess is, the early bird gets the worm.
Goddess, the hard part was the waiting as one is eager to make all those exciting plans.
You can always make your own reservations and then cancel them if/when the GOT comes through............................as Claudia Sails suggested.
