I took this tour years ago; you will love it.
We did the river version on the MS Andoorhina. Great trip.
Tour is so much better now that it ends in Porto and not Madrid.
We are also from the Chicago area and taking this tour in May 2027. Please provide a review.
We took this tour approximately 11 years ago, when it was called Paradors of Northern Spain and went from Barcelona to Lisbon. We loved it. The paradors were interesting, the culture fascinating and the food and wine were wonderful. San Sebastián was quite a highlight for me. We enjoyed it so much that two years later we took the Southern tour, which at that time went from Lisbon to Madrid. We loved that trip too.
The Paradors and Spain and Portugal trips are our favorite European land tours. The culture, the history, the Moorish influence, the food and wine—all wonderful.
Our tour director surprised us by taking us to see the Botafumeira (huge swinging incense burner) at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
You will go to Bilbao on this tour and you'll be taken to the Guggenheim (that's what every tour group to Bilbao does). But there's an almost one-of-a-kind bridge in Bilbao, the Vizcaya bridge of Bilbao ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vizcaya_Bridge ). If there's any way to visit it when you're there, I highly recommend it. You won't see another like it.
You can take a ride across it, and then take the elevator and walk back.
