Question about river cruises and Gift of Time
I am considering taking my first river cruise. The trip starts on the boat. With Gift of Time, Tauck puts me up in a hotel the day before the tour starts. I'm assuming they provide transportation from the airport to the hotel, as they do with land tours. Do they also provide transportation from the GoT hotel to the embarkation dock on day 1?

Yes, you get transportation from the hotel to the ship. The tour director will set a meeting time for guests to gather in the hotel lobby, and the bus will be waiting to take you to the ship. Tauck gathers all luggage, just as they do on land tours. When you arrive to the ship, you will gather in the lounge for a welcome drink as the ship hotel assistants call you up for your key to your room. They will escort you there and show you how things work in your cabin. You will enjoy it, I'm sure.
Hi BKMD. We are taking our fourth river cruise with Tauck in July. Tauck will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel (you can add days to the GOT if you choose). They will also pick you up at the hotel on the day of embarkation and transfer you to the ship. It’s very organized.

In addition to what Mimi wrote, when you check into the hotel there will likely be an info packet they'll give you. Once bit of info will be where and when a couple of the TDs will be the next morning at the hotel - usually the lobby about 9am. In addition to answering any questions you have, they'll give you however many luggage tags you want for any bags you want the hotel to pick up from your room and have Tauck take directly to the ship. This can include both your carryon and checked bags. After that, you can get your bags ready, pack a day pack of anything you want to keep with you then check out of the hotel and go sightseeing. As Mimi said, the TDs will tell you when to be back to the hotel (likely 3 pm) and the entire group will go by coach to the ship. Your bags will be waiting on your bed to unpack before exploring the ship and attending the meet/greet and safety meeting. It's all very seamless.
