How cold?

I'm taking the Rhine cruise in early September.
I've signed up for the cog-wheel train ride up Switzerland's highest mountain.
How cold will it be? Do I need a down jacket or is my wool-lined Burberry enough with a cashmere sweater?

Your Burberry and cashmere should be fine. If the lining is removable, even better. We went later in September and did not need heavy outerwear. A neck scarf, too, in case of wind. It’s a marvelous excursion!

We rarely go on any tour without a puffer that weighs little and folds up very small We use it in layers with other clothing. Most places II have used it as one of two layers iI needed. I only need three layers in Patagonia where it is very cold and windy. I can’t imagine having to deal with a big coat which if I needed to remove have to cart around if it gets too warm.

This what I take and have taken: rain shell, puffer like a Patagonia nano puff or Atom LT, light fleece or light sweater. If the puffer or fleece don’t have a hood then a hat of some sort

Jungfrau? It was snowing up there when we went in mid September.
