Deck plan question for msJoy

edited July 2021 in General

We are considering booking a Category 5 cabin on the Tauck ms Joy on the Ruby Deck for a cruise on the Danube River in Europe. Cabins 203-210 all have a X on the diagram. Does anyone know what the X means? One plan shows the cabins to be 190-225 square feet in size; does that mean they vary in size on that deck; each cabin seems to be the same size on the layout.
No other cabins on the boat have an X.
We appreciate any assistance one can provide.

I believe the 'x' is the loft from Cat.3 rooms that are directly below the cat. 5 rooms. Look at the cabin layouts and the pictures of the cabins for each cat.

Yes the little X box on the Cat 5 cabins on the Ruby deck is actually the loft portion of the Cat 3 cabins on the Emerald deck below. We sailed on the Joy and our Cat 3 loft cabin was very nice, so we chose a Cat 3 cabin on the Inspire for our Rhine cruise next year.

The Cat 3 loft cabins are less expensive and larger than Cat 4 cabins and even less expensive but the same size (225 sq. ft.) as the Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabins on the Ruby deck. They are the best bang for the buck IMO.

The 4 tall windows in this photo of the Joy are the windows of the Cat 3 loft cabins.

Yep, it's the walls encasing the loft from the cabins below.

Thank you for the information; it was very helpful.
Does anyone have a photo from their Category 3 loft cabin while sitting or standing on the lofted area looking out on the river or country side?

Most of the time, it’s best to be outside on the top deck for the views, or you miss one whole view on the other side of the ship. While in port, your view may be blocked altogether by another boat parked right alongside you.

Not quite taken from the loft, but from the main floor or partially up the steps. (the boat was transiting one of the Danube's locks) Shades/drapes/window(?) can be electrically controlled by switches on the loft and on either side of the headboard. It is hard to see because of the darkness of the photo, but at the foot of the bed where the TV sits is a really wide and deep credenza - it is fantastic for "stowing" daily use items (purse, camera bag, etc., etc.) it has (4(?) large) drawers for extra shoes, clothes, shoes, etc. I had the right half and often just threw stuff there- so convenient. :D

From a the main floor, slightly different angle.

Two shots from the loft. As you can see, the widow and loft ceiling (section marked with an "X" on the cabins on the deck above in the deck layout diagram), actually has a high ceiling, much higher than the ceiling of the main part of the cabin. Also, the loft has two comfortable chairs and a small table, if you decided to eat, read the paper, surf the web, etc. in your cabin. In reality, we didn't spend much time in our cabin other than to sleep.

The small but very nice bathroom:

If you think that bathroom is small, the bathrooms on the Ponant small ships are even smaller.
