Specific Laundy Costs

Hi! We'll be doing our first safari (and our first tour with Tauck) starting October 7th.
Given what our current packing plans are (and thanks to all who have helped in that regard!) as well as the schedule, it would seem that it would be most convenient to "laundry up" at the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti. We were wondering if anyone could give us specific charges on laundry at the Four Seasons as compared to the other resorts so that we can better plan.
(I understand that the Four Seasons is a bit more pricey; just wondering how much so.)
TIA for any input!
Bill

Specific costs are hard to find. A Google search of the internet yielded a cost of $1 - $3 per item for random Serengeti hotels from 2009 to the current year.

A search (using "laundry") of the Tauck K&T forum yielded this older post by Carlsbad Sue:

    "Posted: Saturday, May 10, 2014 8:48:31 PM

Kayla's,....I made this trip in March, as a single and it was fabulous!! I made reservations to go on the Botswana trip next year, I loved it so much....you will totally feel a part of the group. Please post upon your return. Travel light as the Serena hotels offer laundry services at about $1 per item."

And this even older one by Loves2travel2:

It would run around $20.00 depending on the outfit. Both times I sent laundry out, I had 5 and 6 pieces and it was less than US $20. You have to charge it to your room. You can either pay cash or credit at check-out. I always had it back the next day. The Mt Kenya Lodge and Bilila Lodge
(this now the Four Seasons) did a beautiful job without ironing. One time, the laundry was in the room when we returned so no tip was involved."

Many said something similar to these: "Yes, laundry is very reasonable in all of the Serena Lodges." "I sent my laundry out a few times and I did not think it was that expensive and it was very convenient." "It is very dusty and dirty, but I had laundry done at the Serena Hotels where they are very accommodating and reasonably priced."

We did this trip in 2015 and sent out laundry mid-tour (?) at the Serena in Amboseli. Additional thoughts and recommendations: The cost of laundry, whatever it may be today, is budget dust compared to what you have paid for the tour and airfare. Live a little. You can always wash unmentionables, etc. in the sink if you need to. In an emergency situation give your clothes a little spritz of Febreeze in key locations- it will give you another day or two out of them- really, it works that well.
  • Thanks, AlanS - helpful!

We just got back and had a great time. Four Seasons was the most expensive place to do your laundry. Even though they offered the Tauck group 50% off, with that discount, they were still three times higher than other places. Example: a pair of pants, the Four Seasons charged $12.00 and with 50% it came down to $6.00 where others charged $2.00.
  • Super, thanks for the input!
We were going through the itinerary and looking for the most appropriate place to do laundry. Unfortunately, it appears that the Four Seasons is the best fit at day 5. I guess if we "stretch" we can wait until the Amboseli Lodge.
  • We were able to pack a huge number of outfits into our duffels and really needed limited laundry apart from smalls. Of course on our K and T tour, they did not stay at the Four Seasons and I thinking we had the better experience.
