No goodness, not daily, think that would look like bribery or favoritism seeking. Usually you discreetly slip them the tip in an envelope during the farewell dinner. We always take the envelope with us ready and add an appropriate hand written note. That's the time also for hugs and thanks.
Any advice on the amount one should generally tip the tour director? We're a family of four (two adults, two kids). Safari is a new adventure for us, so I'd appreciate some guidance on how much the tip should be. Thanks!

Guidance will be in the green book you will get once you are paid in full. Unless it has changed it will say $8 per day per person.
We recently did the South Africa: An Elegant Adventure trip. The recommendation was USD $8 per traveler, per day for the TD. Tauck generally covers all other gratuities however we were so impressed with our game drive trackers/spotters that we tipped them as well. Any additional income means so much to them.
Ah yes. Thanks. I got the green book, but hadn't read that part yet. Thanks for the advice!
Suggest that you read the Green Book cover to cover. There are always extremely important details and great advice as well. Some things can really mess you up if noted at the last minute. As an example we needed several opposing and unused Visa pages in our passports on a recent trip, and fortunately we both were OK.
