Trekking / Hiking Poles Needed??
We are flying to Arusha in 6 days. Wonder if we need trekking/hiking poles during this K&T trip. Is the Lake Duluti walk a easy hike? Thanks for sharing your experience.

Unless you are a bit unsteady on your feet, I would say you don't need hiking poles. You certainly don't need the extra bulk and weight either. However, last year British said they were definitely needed, but the good news is she said one was provided:

Looked like there were mixed reviews of Lake Duluti walk. We are still mulling over it. We arrive 2 days early but don't want to push ourselves for more activities after reading Sealord's advice )
I am awake after a first night in England. How I hate jet lag, yesterday we arrived early morning with our group, we are performing in a musical, so we got on the bus to our two hour destinations, dropped our bags, rooms not ready of course, walked into town, stood in line for a half hour to have an early afternoon tea at a legendary venue. Walked more, mr B went back to check in and to nap, too noisy. I went to my favorites store to shop in peace, came back, we went to a cocktail reception, ate out. 8-30 back at room, very hot no A/c slept one and a half hours, then awake for hours, yes hate jet lag
I didn’t mean to discourage doing the Lake Duluti walk. My wife has done it both times we went on K&T. I didn’t do it mainly because I have bad knees. It only takes a couple hours, and the guides have an office at the hotel. No early wake ups, and you can do it almost anytime. My wife did the walk with another guest, and a guide, while the other guest’s partner and I had a couple beers on the deck. By the way, this is another ‘tip’ not paid by Tauck.
Depending on the style, don't discard your hiking pole. I took a lightweight, collapsible one on Peru & Galapagos. While many used them at Machu Picchu, I didn't, nor anywhere else in Peru. I took it on the hikes in the Galapagos (the ship had bamboo hiking poles) but didn't use it to help me walk- my pole has a 1/4 camera thread on the top of the handle so I used it with my little GoPro camera on land and in the water to get closer photos of my subjects.
