    I haven't seen any reports confirming whether COVID was a contributing factor. He was only 61 but known to have AFIB. He was a COVID denier, which is surprising since he was educated and a former chemistry teacher. Hopefully his Vice President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, a woman, will change the government's approach to COVID. Last year, Pierre Nkurunziza, the coronavirus-denying president of neighboring Burundi, died suddenly at 55 amid speculation that he had contracted the disease.
