Help with extra tour options in Rome

Our Classic Italy tour this September does not include an inside tour of the colosseum, very disappointing for me. From your experience, please help with recommendations on what tour package to book for the colosseum (definitely want to include lower level) and whether we should include other locations (Palatine, Forum, etc). I've looked online and read the tour descriptions but I've also read some reviews that certain sites, although interesting, don't have much to experience. Available time to "see it all" is limited. Thanks!

We did several tours with LIV Tours. Love them, small groups, great colosseum early tour. Followed that with Domus Area on our own. Well worth it and short walk from colosseum.

1. You absolutely want to do the Borghese gallery, that was the best add on we did - well ok the day 0 trip to Capri was pretty awesome too, so we liked those 2 much more than inside of colesseum. 2. We did the interior tour of collesseum it was SO crowded so I dont really blame Tauck for dropping it. We did a tour that included the Palantine hills and roman forum. The tour person talked TOO much we were in the Collesseum 30 minues just him blabbing on and on and after 3 hours in the roman forum we just left. But that's this individual... If you want to see inside of collesseum then sure go ahead and book it

Before booking extras in Rome look in the archives about this tour and what can happen with your schedule. The schedule in Rome can change with little or no notice. e.g. day and time for the after-hours tour of the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel can change just a day or two in advance of arriving there.
