I am exploring yet another unique vacation for 2026 and my question is has anyone traveled along the Silk Road to the 5 Stans: KYRGYZSTAN • KAZAKHSTAN • UZBEKISTAN • TAJIKISTAN • TURKMENISTAN. If you have which company did you use and how was your experience? I am only at the exploration stage and your opinion(s) are engaging and valuable. This just looks like something we would like to do. Thanks.

    I've read the description of that tour. I would never consider it. To me, stan = backwards sh*thole.

    I have an acquaintance who is German and works for a telecom company. He does a lot of travelling. He told me a story about going to one of them (Kyrgyzstan, I think) and said it was the most backwards, underdeveloped place he'd ever been.

    It is from what I have been told by a person who leads tours there that it is challenging in that respect but it would not stop me going being warned about it beforehand.

    I would be concerned about security in those places. Can’t say I ever thought of going to even one of those.
