We are arriving early in Barcelona, we will be suffering from lack of sleep any suggestions for our first day alone? We are extending trip with 2 more days in Porto, then Lisbon and Algarve region. Any suggestions for those welcome too! As far as airports anyone have preference for Porto or Lisbon? Thank you!

If you google things to see and do in each place, that will give you some ideas and maybe if you select a few you like the sound of, reach out again and ask if anyone has experienced them and what they thought.
The Northern Spain tour ends in Porto, it’s either a flight or a long drive to Lisbon.

  • Many forum members seem to like the carnival-like area of La Rambla in Barcelona. I do not, but the Mercat de la Boqueria is a great place to wander and have something to eat.

Regarding Porto and Lisbon, I’m reluctant to comment without knowing your likes and dislikes. Both cities have a plethora of things to experience. Use the search bar in the upper right corner to find recommendations by entering the cities one at a time. Then, as suggested, you can return here and ask specific questions.

Lisbon’s airport is large but with good signage. I have no experience with Porto’s airport.

  • I'm not always a fan of hop on hop on bus tours but Barcelona is actually a great city for that. Good orientation to the city. If you're not sure what you'd like to see Rick Steves Pocket Guide to Barcelona is has lots of useful information and maps. Plus it's small enough to actually carry with you. I'm a Gaudi fan but there is lots of other stuff to see.

  • There are trains between Porto and Lisbon. 3 hours I think.

  • I took this tour in 2011, went 3 days early, in addition to seeing a lot of Barcelona, I took private tours to Girona, Figueres (Dali's Museum) and Sitges, this is one of my favorite trips.

  • It must have been.1976 when I. went to Sitges. It must have been near Easter because there was a procession with all the religious statues or maybe a flower festival.

  • On the Spain and Portugal tour we experienced a parade during the Holy Week in Seville, Spain. Supposedly the one in Málaga is equally elaborate.
