I think you should add 23 days to the trip. Allocate one day for each of Tokyo's districts. 😁
Tokyo has a total of 23 districts, also known as wards (ku), which make up the core of the city. These districts account for approximately one-third of the metropolitan area. Additionally, Tokyo includes several towns and villages, as well as the Izu and Ogasawara islands.
Seriously this is an impossible question to answer without knowing what you want to see. Seems like if you put together a list of things you want to see, besides what you see on the tour, then people might be able to recommend a realistic timeframe for seeing the items on your list.
We added 3 days at the end of the trip, which seemed about right, in retrospect. Took the train back from Osaka. Lots to see, and easier to find direct flights home.
We did a lot of neighborhood wanders that we didn't do on tour, back to akihabara, back to ginza, time wandering in the Tokyo Station underground city, etc. Tokyo is one of the world's major cities. there's plenty to see and do,l not unlike London, Paris, NYC, etc. I was with my daughter and SIL. We walked probably 10 miles each day, took the subway several times, immersing ourselves in the city like locals.
I think it's more needed now, as Tauck has cut back in the last few years on the number of sites they take you to, offering free time, instead.

Why was the 3 days about right in retrospect? How many things did you see, which ones, etc, etc.

I was told 2 pre-days in Tokyo and 2 post in Kyoto.
Again, _ was told! _
