Best month for this tour

What is the best time to go on this tour? Looking at 2027 dates. Saw Mike Henderson blog - seems that mid-September they encountered a fair amount of rain. Is June, July better rain-wise?

  • Look at the tour prices - the “better times” are usually more expensive and…also more crowded. You can Google average weather for each month - but even then, if there are on average 10 days of rain in a month - you could get all 10 of those days on your tour…

  • Impossible to predict these days

  • Margaret, Late June and early July are still my favorite time to be in the Swiss Alps. The wildflower symphony is at its grandest. September is hard to predict — we've had snow in September several times, and the landscape looks so different. I love the lush green landscape and that newborn spirit in the air …

  • Another recollection — one June, our daily forecast called for showers and rain, so we started each day earlier, and the bad weather never got in our way. Another year, we had the hottest and driest July on record in the Jungfrau region.

  • I have seen several documentaries on how Switzerland is the hardest hit country due to the ravages of global warming and the extraordinary measures taken by scientists there to preserve parts of the Alps.

It is our preference to travel there in Sep/Oct. A versatile, mix and match wardrobe and a rain jacket with removable lining and hood works fine for us. You will most likely experience snow while climbing Jungfraujoch but your time there is short lived. We found no need for heavy, bulky attire. Keep checking the ten (10) day outlook as your trip approaches and adjust your packing accordingly.

  • Weather predicting is a total crap shoot these days.

We went the first 2 weeks of Sep and had very pleasant weather though with the stops on this tour there are extremes from warm weather at the southern/Italian end to snow at Jungfraujoch. We only saw rain once the night we arrived in Interlaken. The attached photo is from Harder Kulm - rain with an amazing rainbow. Thankfully it's a fairly casual tour so you can focus on bringing clothing that lets you span the ranges and adjust as needed. One nice outfit is fine. Sep is also somewhat less crowded than July and August though still a very popular time.

  • I was there in July last year. The weather was fine

  • We went in September and the weather was great. The only rain we had was the morning before the tour started.

  • While we had some rain on the tour we took, it never interfered with our enjoyment of the tour.

For the science-minded people on the forum, look at Claudia’s picture and note that the picture is darker on the right side of the rainbow than on the left. That’s Alexander’s Dark Band between the primary rainbow and the secondary rainbow. Named after Alexander of Aphrodisias.

  • Thanx for pointing that out Mike. I hadn't even noticed the other fainter rainbow. FYI, My photo only shows about half the rainbow. It was actually almost 360 degrees.
