Northern Spain: Barcelona to Porto - Question re: Basílica de la Sagrada Família

My husband and I will be on the Northern Spain: Barcelona to Porto tour in 2027. I see on the itinerary that there's a city tour of Barcelona with a stop at the Basílica de la Sagrada Família. For those who have been on this tour, does Tauck actually take you into the Basilica for a tour or is it more of a drive by? Thanks for any info you can provide.

When I took that trip a few years ago, we did stop and visit Sagrada Familia.

I concur with Goddess. We had a tour that covered both the outside (up close to see the carvings over the doors) and the inside.

When I took this tour, a few years back we sopped and visited the Sagrada Familia.

We just took this trip . Tauck is no longer going to Sagrada Família . Our tour director told us it was because of the large crowds and the pickpocketing

You have to be kidding me! So we have to do it ourselves, did they tell you in advance! We go next year!

@British - If you decide to get a local tour guide, I used one a couple of years ago in Barcelona and would recommend him.

I'll go ahead and put his name in. Javier of Barcelona Tour Guide - www.barcelonaprivatetourguide.com

[Looks like the price has gone up quite a bit. I paid a lot less than what the website quotes now.]

    Thanks, I’ll copy the link!

We went last September and got Sagrada tickets from the official website. The official tour was very perfunctory, but the place is just incredible & well worth the visit. Too bad Tauck is no longer going there. The crowds there are overwhelming (Spain’s #1 tourist site).

Mike’s recommendation is excellent. My humble additional comment: Avoid “My Top Tours” like the plague. It is largely a scam (my opinion) & leaves many/most unwary buyers disappointed that their tickets didn’t work. Reviews are uniformly negative.

I find Context Tours, led by academics, to be terrific. We used one in Rome but not Barcelona.

We fly to Barcelona next Tuesday for the Barcelona and Northern Spain trip. I just called Tauck to ask about the visit to Sagrada Família. She said our itinerary shows we ARE going to SF. She said if anything had changed they certainly would have informed us of that change. I am relieved to know that after the person said that recently their tour director said Tauck was not going any more ???
    Hopefully we are visiting SF.

Looks like it's included in the 2026 itineraries, but not in 2027.

Yes, I checked our 2027 itinerary and no mention. We are only going one day early so it’s going to be a rush to see it. Pick pocketing is not new in Barcelona, so now we don’t even have the extra security of being in a group. Another bad choice from Tauck.

The 2027 pricing and itinerary are gone from the website.

It is there. The banner indicates 2027 pricing is being finalized and that bookings are being accepted pending final pricing. This is a popular tour.

Update - It appears the website is being updated for 2028 pricing but the wording indicates 2027 in one place and 2028 in another. I’ve seen similar issues when the site is being updated.

It is back today. No mention of 2028 any more. Not sure what that was all about.

A Week in Spain is still scheduled to see Sagrada Familia in 2027. So much for the crowds and pickpockets excuse.

British - Another bad choice from Tauck.

Perhaps Eldertreks can provide a better option, if they tour there. If not, then isn't that a 'bad choice' from Eldertreks? Look at how many disgruntled Tauck guests they could work with.

If you sign up for a Tauck tour before pricing is established and an itinerary is published, then when those things are announced don't you have the option for a full refund? I think you do.

If you sign up for a tour after the pricing and itinerary are published and miss something in the itinerary (something isn't included that you thought would be), then isn't that an 'oops' on you?
