Questions about this trip

I’ve thought about this trip for a long time, but keep putting it off. I’m curious about a couple things. Which direction would you choose? We’ve never been to Budapest or Bucharest, so both cities would be new for us. We take our GOT at the beginning of our trips. Also, is September a good time of year for this trip? I always appreciate the help I get from this community!

  • I believe that Budapest is a much more vibrant city with way more interesting things to do and see than Bucharest. Bucharest, in my opinion, still lags much of Europe, not having advanced as far from its past under the Communist regime.

We went in May 2025 and it was lovely. September might be similar, but you can get onto weatherspark.com and get the averages for temperature, rainfall, humidity, etc (on a month-by-month basis) for any/all of the cities that the tour visits and see what looks best to you.

  • September is a perfect month. Weather is good and less crowds. Budapest is one of my all time favorites!

  • I haven’t taken this tour but have been to both book-end cities briefly. They both offer vibrant cultural experiences and history.

A deciding factor as to which city to start and end in might be the availability of the most direct flights from where you live.

We always take guided tours in either spring or fall, preferring autumn months for the cooler weather and fall foliage (depending on location).

    Good luck with your decision.

  • Budapest would be where I'd spent more time. Don't miss the Szechenyi Baths.

  • I agree with Goddess, Budapest is also where I would spend the most time. On another entire note altogether, I did have to go to a pharmacy in Bucharest because I had an eye infection and was able to get eye drops with cortisone in it (I now travel with that presciption all the time) and I could not believe that it was only $3.00. In the U.S. it would have been $50.00. I stocked up on all kinds of cosmetics and other over the counter meds because of the exchange rate in Romania at the time.

  • Coupled with the above, Romania and Bulgaria are fantastic places to purchase excellent and inexpensive facial products.
