Latam Airlines vs Delta Airlines

Hey Everyone,

I have a question for anyone familiar with Latam Airlines. I have my flights to Buenos Aires and the flight there is from Boston-Miami-Buenos Aires. The Miami to Buenos Aires is on Latam Airlines Boeing 787-8. I am flying home on Delta - Buenos Aires-Atlanta-Boston.

I just was wondering what are your thoughts on Latam? Decent or would you choose Delta over them? I could switch to connect via Atlanta on the way to Buenos Aires instead of Miami on Delta.

Looking for opinions.

Also - I am flying Business Class.

Thanks!!!

When we went to Santiago, Chile for the Patagonia tour, LATAM was our only direct option and we used it for round trip. I forget that particular plane but I believe it was a 2-2-2 configuration in Business Class. I am not a fan of that layout but hate paying more, so I generally put up with it. The food was good, seat was comfortable and the staff was super nice. Only negative is that it was an older plane and the seats lacked a bit of privacy. On the way back we had a layover in Santiago and it was raining hard, which caused a one-hour delay. The airport staff went around the waiting area to personally apologize to the guests and explain the delay. I thought that was classy. LATAM is the most widely-used airline in South America. I have never flown business on Delta but I have on KLM and that is my favorite way to get to Europe, if the price difference is not too bad. But if you have a big price difference and the itinerary is more convenient, I would think you would be just fine on LATAM. Actually, I just found this Youtube video. Not sure if this is your plane but it looks like a very good 1-2-1 configuration. Maybe they are replacing their older planes now.

Hi Wan! Thanks so much for your response. I believe the seats are 1-2-1 on my flight and I agree about the 2-2-2 set up, not a fan!!

I just flew KLM last month on my South Africa trip and have to say they were a super nice crew and I love the little houses they give, too.

It made me nervous on the Latam site that it said my seat 3L was premium economy, but I booked business. I googled it and it said it was some website glitch and then I went on their app and it did say business cabin, so I felt better, but it had me wondering about the airline in general.

Thanks for the link to youtube. It does look like that is my set up as there are only 5 rows and the 1-2-1 set up like in the video.

We flew Latam several years ago and it was very good including the food and service. I would happily use them again.

Thanks British! Happy to hear that!

I've flown LATAM a number of times and always thought they did a good job.

Delta code shares with Latham and often Latham is the only way to get to where you want to go with fewest stops.

We booked business class to Peru - return from Guayaquil. Food was mediocre and service was aloof. Latham cancelled flight on the way home from Quito at last minute - a significant change and would not speak to us! We could do nothing online. Finally after staying up all night we got hold of Delta and were booked on another flight. Irritated at check-in in on the way home - Not a happy camper. I forget all that happened but Delta did give us points.

I flew Latam to S. America about 12 years ago. I don't recall details, so it must have been OK :)

The only international airlines currently on my no-fly list are Air Canada (terrible service, lost luggage) and non-upgraded Lufthansa. For years I avoided Lufthansa because of their archaic 2-2-2 biz seating. They are finally joining the modern world with 1-2-1 seating and I have 2 flights booked DEN-MUC on their upgraded A380s, first one next month,

For me, standouts (for best food) have been Air France and ANA.

I agree with BKMD about the seating on Lufthansa. I flew their 747 a couple of times recently and the business class seating was ancient. I understand they're going to upgrade the 747 seating, however, in a year or so. Their A380 seating has been good.

I avoid Air France because they go on strike so often. And American has not treated me very well.

I agree about Air France’s food service. My airline preferences for European travel are Air France, KLM and SAS, the latter being quite nice after their restructuring following bankruptcy.

During my career, I flew frequently with Air France and was never impacted by strikes, whether on business or personal travel.

I actually do not eat on flights, even long haul ones, so food service doesn't faze me.

I will say the KLM crew was super nice and seemed concerned when I would tell them that I didn't want to eat anything on the 11-hour flight. :-)

Mike - I have heard that about Air France and decided to stay on my Delta flight this December to Paris that gets me in at 6am rather than the Air France one that arrives an hour later when Delta changed my flight time. I will say Delta seems to do a lot of schedule changes which is a bummer.

I am not against flying Air France. I flew with them before because, like Latam, they code share with Delta. Once was because they handled one leg of a flight and the other when Delta delayed, then cancelled my flight home so I switched to the Air France flight to not get stuck at the airport. I do think their Business Class seat was the best of the small number of airlines I've flown Business in. I'm sure it does not compare to Qatar or Emirates, but maybe one day I'll fly them to compare.

    Thanks everyone!!

Air France and indeed France, do have a lot of strikes. That is also why we avoid them.
All airlines seem to change flight times these days, of course more noticeable if you book early as we mostly do.
Kathy, I’m assume you keep well hydrated, walk around or move your legs around and wear compression socks.

Ah...the nurse in you is coming out British! LOL. On the flight to Africa from Amsterdam I did get up once and used the bathroom, but not on the way back. The return flight from Africa to Amsterdam was 11pm so I did my best to sleep. I don't drink much on the flights, but I DID wear compression socks (yeah me). I know all wrong on my part, LOL, but I survived. I will move my legs in the seat and did stand, but I'm pretty much glued to my seat.
