Submitted by Sealord. It is one of two 3500 years old Egyptian Sphinxes portraying Amenhotep III wearing the dual crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. They were originally from a temple in Thebes but are now located in Saint Petersburg, Russia. They arrived in 1830. By the time the initial purchase proposal made it from the Embassy in Cairo to Nicholas I of Russia and then to the Russian Academy of Arts, both had been sold to a French buyer. As a result of the French Revolution, Saint Petersburg got the sphinxes after all. They can be seen today on the waterfront in front of the Imperial Academy of Arts.

Submitted by TravelGuy. Belvedere Palace in Vienna, Austria. The Kiss the famous painting by Gustav Klimt resides there.
Round #85 JohnS got that one was a flamenco dancer and in Spain, and while there were some (often ‘interesting’) additional guesses (while it may have been “flamenco” I still think it was a Pasadoble ), there was no overall winner.
Submitted by Sealord. Photo of female flamenco dancer and rider first silhouetted in a window (we still don’t know what that’s all about), then, in subsequent photos, were performing a flamenco dance in a bull ring- the woman and the horse both danced the flamenco, the rider and horse performed using dressage. There were a number of flamenco dancers who also performed in the stands. This was at a private estate just north of Malaga, in Cartama, Spain on Tauck’s “Treasures of Spain and Portugal” small ship cruise aboard Windstar’s “Wind Surf”.
Round #86 won by Portolan
Submitted by AlanS. Peruvian Paso horses during a performance at Hacienda Mamacona in Lurin, Peru. Known for their extremely smooth ride which is a result of a unique four step gait. They inherited this gait from European predecessors, strict breeding and training, though some claim it resulted from walking on the hot sands of coastal Peru. During the performance the horses wore ribbons to signify their prior show successes.
Round #87 is officially open. Submit your photo in a reply [Leave a Comment] to this announcement.
Comments
The ribbons must be a new feature. In 2013 the horses didn’t wear any ribbons during the performance.
Where was this taken? What Tauck Tour?
Innsbruck? Bergisel? Ultimate Alps and Dolomite Tour?
Innsbruck
Alpine Adventure
Or A Grand Rail Adventure: Vienna, The Alps & Milan
It didn't take long for BobHamburger to nail it! Only we visited with our grandson on a Bridges Alps Tour.
So what tour was it?
Alpine Adventures, a Tauck Bridges Tour we took with our grandson for his Bat Mitzvah gift.
I've seen ski jumping in Lake Placid.
I've always wondered how people do that for the first time
It appears to be summertime, so was the jump refrigerated or made from a plastic- polypropylene, UHMW PE, ceramic, or Astro Turf covered with Crisco ?
Strange fact- the current jump was designed by the British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid- two countries not noted for snow or ski jumps!!! Of course there was 'Eddie the Eagle'.
On the Ultimate Alps and Dolomites tour we stopped at a ski facility in a small town called Einseideln. It's the site of the national ski jumping training facility for Switzerland. We happened to be there on a national holiday when the junior ski jumping team was practicing. This facility has three different jumps with a single person lift taking you to the base of the highest jump. You then take an elevator to the top where we were able to stand behind the jumpers who had also taken the elevator.
You can see that it is made of plastic with tracks for you to place your skis. The way it works that the skier shimmies out on a bar, gets his skis in the tracks and then when he rises the bar goes up until the next skier comes along.
We spoke with some of the teenagers who were doing this. They began on the "bunny" jump (not in the picture) when they were four years old and are now hoping to qualify for the 2022 Olympics.
Thanks. Great shots! (I knew it wasn't Astro Turf and Crisco but the outrun does look like artificial or maybe real grass). I'm sure they are wearing special summer slope skiis.
How would you like having to walk the steps back up each time?!?!?
If I recall correctly, I think that they said that they wet down the surface. You can see that some of the lower part of the carpet looks like it has some wet spots.
Here's one more of someone landing.
Just a couple of additional pictures from the Bergisel Ski Jump in Innsbruck. Notice cemetery just across from the end of the jump; what a great source of motivation!
