Buyer Beware

we booked this trip to take the Rocky Moutaineer. First the Jasper fires and now the train from Kamaloop to Banff is not running due to the rail strike. We are on a cramped bus which is horrible. When I called on day one to see rebooking options due to the train strike i was told they would only refund 2/3. We have choices for how we spend our travel dollars. We will never ever travel with Tauck.

  • Even with insurance, it states you don’t get all the money back for train and ship journeys. Not good I agree, but you should have seen this on your contract.

  • You should boycott Canada, too.

That is perhaps a generous offer. If you read your contract(s) you might discover that they probably did not have to offer anything. What was behind door ‘B’? There is often an ‘either or’ in these situations, or maybe not. Tauck obviously does not control wild fires nor railroad strikes … nor river levels, or many other potential upsets beyond their control. Yes … beware that sometimes things happen that interfere with the “perfect” trip. Tauck has a reputation for making the best of it, and normally compensates more generously than others. Taking the football and going home is often not the best choice.

  • So Cynthia, I just realized, you started the tour! How could you expect a full refund!

  • A rail strike is not something you can expect your travel company to solve. That’s just unrealistic and naive. Anyone who has ever traveled to Europe has probably had to deal with a looming strike at one time or another. And I doubt any travel provider would provide more than what tauck would have given you. You don’t want to use Tauck again, that is your choice, but at least have realistic expectations about the travel industry.

  • Sadly another first timer on the forum who has come here to complain about something. Not sure if she thinks Tauck reads these posts and will somehow respond or she just wants to p---s on the company to deter others from using Tauck. Most forum participants have had multiple tours and a lot more experience so these types of posts just fall on deaf ears. Maybe she can sue the rail union.

  • This is analogous to buying a car, for example, and driving it for a week and then deciding you don’t like it anymore and want to return it for a full refund. That’s not going to happen.

  • Have no idea what you mean by "cramped bus" I've been on many tours with 40+ people and have never been on a "cramped bus"
