  • If you bought Tauck's Guest Protection policy read the details. Your final documents would have the coverage details. If you didn't buy it read up on Tauck cancellation policy. Then I'd recommend calling Tauck and explaining what's happening so they can explain the process and options.

  • The most recent information we got from Tauck on their downloadable ‘green book’ now has in great detail how to proceed. I would also call Tauck though. Best wishes and hope everything is ok sudhamali!
Last year we had to cancel a tour only a few days before and at that time we called Tauck and they transferred the entire payment we had made onto another tour we already had booked.

  • We do have Tauck insurance !Booked air on our own.Looks like insurance will cover air tickets foe covered reason.

  • Hope it's all a moot point and the cardiologist gives the ok.

  • sudhamali good luck at the doctors. I also had to postpone a river cruise in April and Tauck also moved everything to May, luckily you won't have to do it.

  • Thank you everyone.I think my husband may need something done for his coronary arteries .We had a check up and one thing led to another ; if they do some corrective procedure like stunting he may nor be able to travel for at least for a couple of months.Once I hear from the cardiologist Iwill immediately proceed; our departure is not until 6/8.Certainly don’t want to end up in Africa with a heart attack.

  • Read “ stenting”

  • If you have to switch to August or Sept, it’s still a good time to go.

  • We have to see what the timeline will be for his recovery assuming he doesn’t need open heart!August we have a big tennis tournament for 2 weeks that we go to!

We had to cancel years ago for a family emergency- we had the insurance but I booked our own flights- all worked out great, didn't lose a cent. Just last fall we had to cancel for an medical issue, but re-booked for a few weeks later. I booked the air on my own. My condition and the new date didn't work out so we had to cancel again, so don't rush it. We are giving it a third try this fall.

So far, except for cheap, short flights from Maui to Honolulu (I booked with Hawaiian Air) we haven't lost a cent. I probably could have claimed the Hawaiian air flights with Tauck, but it wasn't worth my time. We usually re-book the tour right away. Delta will usually just issue new tickets but since I book as early as possible the tickets can sometimes expire. In that case I use the Tauck insurance to get a refund.

  • Thanks Alan.Your inputs have been valuable. While I am glad we have insurance coverage,we would not want to have a catastrophic event while traveling abroad particularly in some countries more so than others .We are still waiting for the recommendation from Cardiologist although we ( both as retired physicians),will be shocked if he sends us on our way.In 2022 six months after my husband’s back surgery,I went to the neurosurgeon’s office with medical claim forms in hand ready to cancel; to our surprise he cleared him for travel. All went well on Danube river cruise. But the situation is different now and we will do whatever is recommended. So far we never had to cancel in our travels with Tauck or other companies! Will count the blessings!

  • I went in December and it was fine, so take your time if you need to.

  • We have specific extra annual Evacuation medical insurance that covers you as long as you have been cleared for travel. It works as long as you are at least 100 miles from home. You would be assessed at a local facility and then they will get you home if suitable services are not available. It includes getting tickets to fly you home with a nurse if necessary, Your companion is also covered. If you have a rental car, they will even get that back for you and so on. You must contact the insurance as soon as possible, not after the fact. Thankfully we have never had to use it. The annual fee is a very reasonable price.
