Cabin noise
We have reserved cabin #316 on the Rhine, Swiss Alps & Amsterdam tour. Should we be concerned about engine noise?
Thanks in advance for any responses from previous travelers on this tour.

No, unless you are an extremely light sleeper. You are more than likely to hear the engines of passing boats because sound travels well though water.
Which boat are you on? Is 316 a loft cabin?
Mr. Garrett - We were in cabin 308. No noise at all except for when moving through a lock or when the engines first power up. The gentle rocking when traversing locks always lulls me back to sleep. I have never experienced noise from another boat. These are slow moving boats, not speedboats.
Have a great journey. It is a great trip. Please consider posting a review afterwards. It is always nice to compare notes.
We are booked on the MS Treasures. Room 316 is toward the rear of the ship on the upper level. There is one small suite between us and Arther's. We leave on June 19, 2026.
Thanks
We have been in the small cabin next to Arthurs … no noise other than the mentioned noise going through the locks which can be substantial. Good location. You are about five steps from the coffee machine in Arthur’s.
When it comes to night time cruising and locks, I don't think there is a cabin that completely avoids it. The only drawback to that cabin is the only thing close to it is Arthurs. Everything else on the ship is at the other end so you'll get your steps in for sure. Any meal in the Compass Dining room. Any activity in the lounge like the daily briefings or entertainment. Departing the ship thru the reception are for excursions. Some people like the extra exercise to work off all that good food.
Claudia: This is not Icon of the Seas, nor an aircraft carrier. The ship is a total of 361 feet long from stem to stern. From room 316 to the lounge is probably not much longer than fifty yards. They are also close to the hot tub. I have done several riverboat cruises and I think being close to Arthur’s is good deal. (;-)
Sealord, that walk wouldn't be an issue for the majority of guests but I have known river crew passengers who had significant walking issues. I think its fair to warn people in case they do have issues. On a normal day on board you make that round trip from cabin to bow at least 6 times. I'm a fan of Arthur's but I don't go there nearly as often as I go the other direction.
You both make good points Sealord and Claudia. On our previous river cruise we enjoyed cabin 319, close to the back by Arthur’s. My husband would go to Arthur’s to bring me hot tea in bed 😁 Next year we are booked on the new ship Lumiere where Arthur’s is at the front. For this trip we have booked a cabin with a little less walking because my husband has recently had foot surgery. He will save his steps for the walking tours. We never had any issues from noise in our cabin.
Alina, I did notice in the photos of the new ship that the new wellness center that takes Arthur's place at the rear of the ship does have one of the fancy hot drink machines. Arthur's has always been my hang out space when I was up early and my husband was sleeping in. Of course it's an artist's conception photo so we'll all have to wait and see the final. Looking forward to seeing the new ships.
I love Arthur's, I always eat light for breakfast and lunch so Arthur's is my "to go to" place for those.
I can only speak for my husband who has some mobility issues. Walking on straight surfaces was not the issue for him, especially the relatively short distance from our cabin to anywhere else on the ship.
He did have to be very cautious when exiting the boat and walking down the metal walkway, however. There is always someone at the bottom to assist with that last step by offering a hand. The crew, in my opinion, is always cognitive of the safety of passengers.
