Luggage Restrictions
Has anyone out there taken this trip? We were surprised to read that luggage will be limited to one bag weighing less than 50 pounds and a small purse or backpack. Are these limits for real or are they just recommendations?

Where did you read that only a small purse or backpack is part of the limit? I've been on 18 Tauck tours and have never seen that limitation.
Almost all Tauck tours have a medium suitcase limit and a carry on roller or backpack. Roll on luggage will not fit in the overhead of a bus so has to be stored under the bus with no access during the day.
I did this trip Fall 2025. I don't recall the documentation, but everyone had the usual suitcase and carry-on. There was no place luggage was restricted to a smaller than usual size.
As British said yes that's the basic limit. The larger roller carryons you need to bring down to the coach on your own and retrieve it at the next hotel. Those bags go in a specific compartment under the coach. Smaller day bags, totes, etc you can take on board with you. This is what I do. I get the larger check bag ready the night before we are due to leave that hotel and all the last minute stuff like toiletries, electronics, nightwear goes in the carryon. Makes hotel transfers easier.
Under Luggage Restrictions: "Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel or for many on-tour flights. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.
For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel."
..."small soft-sided carry-on piece...to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack..." That sounds like either a large purse or a medium-sized backpack.
Yes. It can be done, you are touring, priority should go to outfits which can be mixed and matched, can be worn more than once and are not heavy like say jeans. It becomes easy after a few trips
Carol, the restrictions are in part due to the process for baggage handling and the limitations of the coach size especially if its a large guest group (40+). For every hotel move the hotel staff collect all the larger bags from your room, the TD has to count it all and make sure nothing gets left behind, then it's all loaded under the coach by the driver. Bag pick up time and group departure time are affected by how long this takes. More bags, more time, can cause the pickup time to be moved earlier impacting everyone. Inside the coach the overhead storage is shallower than airlines and often open shelving. Fine for totes, small backpacks, hats, but the typical large roller carryon bag won't fit. I travel with the one larger bag per airline checked bag size (and Taucks), a roller bag that can fit under an airline seat, and a small purse type bag.
Once you arrive at the next hotel the process reverses.
The small roller bag and purse I handle myself. Tauck handles the big bag. On small group tours there is plenty of room. But on tours where we've had 39 guests and many had the larger carryon roller bags it took a while to load.
Any tour with on tour flights becomes a different issue.
Nowhere does it say a only small purse allowed.
