Round #86 won by Portolan
Submitted by AlanS. Peruvian Paso horses during a performance at Hacienda Mamacona in Lurin, Peru. Known for their extremely smooth ride which is a result of a unique four step gait. They inherited this gait from European predecessors, strict breeding and training, though some claim it resulted from walking on the hot sands of coastal Peru. During the performance the horses wore ribbons to signify their prior show successes.

  • We took a walk along a trail and came upon this structure. What is it? Where is it?

  • Well, I think the "what" is an animal overpass, probably on a migration route (for mountain goats?...it's pretty rough.

    "Where" could be almost any"where."

  • Not an animal overpass.

  • Some sort of a shelter in Iceland?

  • Kiddie train tunnel at an abandoned amusement park.

  • Storm shelter?

What kind of shelter? I've never been to Iceland and our tour there for this June was cancelled :'(

  • Avalanche?

  • They don't have enough snow here to worry about.

  • Mine shaft?

  • A portal to Asgard.

  • Nothing to mine here. Another photo from not far away.

  • Japan, bomb shelter remnant or entrance to “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.

A geothermal hiker warming shelter (built over a natural thermal)?

  • Japan is correct. What part? Not the entrance, but close to the entrance to the "Center of the Earth". The shelter has nothing to do with geothermal water.

  • Protects against volcanic eruptions.

  • Covid19 shelter

    tacky restroom.
    Japan (Tokyo) Disney World

Ok, l would say close enough Sam. It is a shelter at the base of Sakurajima Volcano, the most active volcano in Japan, (school children are required to wear hardhats walking to and from school). The second photo is of a footbath using water from a geothermal spring.
One of the activities on Day 8 of "Cruising the Land of the Rising Sun" was a ferry ride from Kagoshima to see Sakurajima up close. Other activities were visits to: a shochu distillery, Chiran Samurai Gardens, and the Chiran Peace Museum for Kamikaze Pilots...a very enjoyable and interesting day.

  • tsunami shelter (we're getting silly now, aren't we?)

  • Yes, I think some may have been drinking the shochu :)

I had never seen photos of it before, but Tokyo Disneyland looks interesting- same and different versions of the same stuff as here but some really interesting attractions and rides can be seen in Tokyo DisneySea on Mysterious Island- many in a Jules Verne vein, though Toy Story Mania is really popular too. Like in Orlando it is really packed, but with people who don't typically observe personal space they way we do here in the US.

  • I checked google and found a picture and description "Japan. Lava bomb shelter, Sakurajima volcano".
