I see that they are a subset of some of the land tours, similar to small group, classic and now “women only.”
Really, is this very new! I like to have a few men. We were on a tour once, only 6 people, one man, my husband. So,etimes a man can be really useful in certain situations.
I suspect what would be more useful is pricing that isn't so prohibitive to solo travelers.
I think they're just trying to appeal to another market, similar to the reasoning behind the Roam tours. As a solo female traveler, I receive a lot of marketing material for women only tours. Some people might feel more comfortable with a single gender tour, but I'm not one of them.
Tauck might be trying to capture what appears to be a trend. I have noticed that on the river cruises there have sometimes been more single women than couples.
If Tauck offered themed land tours for women—wine and culinary focus or literary focus, as examples—I would be a willing participant.
I've traveled solo with Tauck for the past 20 years and have not received any information on "Women only Tours".
I've told my wife that many times.😊 And an engineer is best of all!
Today, 9/4/26, I checked the availability for 3 of the women-only tours. All were completely booked for 2027. There is clearly a desire and need for women-only tours. Backroads offers 73 women-only tours because the demand is so high. I am hoping Tauck will follow suit.

Ah, I had to google to find them, only three departures this year, none of which have gone yet. Much expanded next year. All small group so more expensive.

HA! I was just thinking yesterday after reading yet another WNBA article…what happens if a man identifying as a woman signs up?
Well - there are really only a few women only tours in the overall scheme of things - one, maybe two, for certain itineraries. I hope Tauck doesn't go overboard on this…just like I hope they don't go overboard on the Roam tours…I have an unsettled feeling in the back of my mind that they are losing focus on their core constituency and if they branch out too much into these other areas all will suffer for lack of focus.
I called Tauck yesterday and inquired about availability to book a women only tour. I was pleased to to informed that a tour Southern Charms was available to book. It begins on September 29, 2027 and ends on October 6, 2027. St. Augustine, Savannah and Charleston are the cities and the itinerary is outstanding. The price for accommodations, sightseeing, etc is $9,022.00. I am aware of other women only tours and will consider checking their itineraries.
On these women only tours are only female TDs, drivers, and local guides allowed? 😂
Does anyone know the driving factor for these tours from a business perspective? Is it to make women more comfortable traveling alone? If so, then they must feel there are enough women travelers in this category to make the tours profitable? Do they make the itineraries special/different because they feel women might be drawn to different attractions/excursions than men?
Seems like a reach to me to make this much of a real business. Seems like there might be easier ways to draw in new/more customers.
This is not an answer to Smiling Sam, but I would like to see more excursions that show how things are done. For example, if I was to visit a cheese region, I'd be a lot more interested in how they make the cheese than how the cheese tasted.
When visiting Dresden I visited the Volkswagen "Glass Factory", which is a multi-story automobile factory. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transparent_Factory When I first heard about it, I thought it was a place where they made glass - and I was interested in that. But the automobile factory was good, also.
A visit to a facgtory where they made glass for automobile windows would be very interesting.
I remember that visit, and don't remember much else about the city. I wish I could find tours that focused on "how things are made".
There is a large market for women only tours but I think it would be a female TD but maybe male or female local guides or drivers. Hopefully when the tours actually start, which they haven’t yet, so,some here on the forum will write a review.
We come across many women traveling without their husbands who are widows, their husbands don’t travel any more, are divorced or single. And then there are the groups of women, don’t want to be on a tour with them, too noisy!
Went to a cheese factory with Tauck once, we enjoyed it but most others did not, they were just interesting in the tasting.
MIke - On the Alps and DOlomites tour, we saw a demo of how cheese is made. We also visited a chocolate factory and made our our chocolate bars. I had mine for dinner 😀
The last e-mail I received about these tours indicated the tour directors will be female. Tauck is merely attempting to capitalize on a growing niche market.
I read recently that 72% of solo travelers are women and it has grown from a niche market to mainstream now. As of now, when I looked at Tauck’s they have just taken one or two of currents tour dates and made them women only - no change to the itineraries.
Mike - On our Bellissima Northern Italy tour, we stopped at a factory where Parmesan cheese is made, and had a great step by step tour of the process. I was fascinated — and of course, enjoyed the tasting after the tour.
The cheese factory on the Puglia tour many years ago, I mostly remember that the workers regularly had to have the hair on their arms waxed.
