Scotland England and Wales vs Adriatic Treasures or Sicily?
Now that prices are out for 2025, I’m trying to decide which trip I want to book for next year. I’ve not been to Scotland or Wales, but have been to England a few times. On the other hand I’ve not been to Croatia at all. Then there’s Sicily. What order would you put these trips in?

I have not taken ESW and have not been to Sicily, but I will tell you that Adriatic Treasures is tied for #2 favorite of my 17 Tauck trips. I enjoyed seeing how the different areas of Croatia were so different, enjoyed our trips into Montenegro (a long drive, though) and Bosnia and Herzogovina and absolutely fell in love with Slovenia. I highly recommend it.
I also enjoyed the Adriatic Treasures tour and would put it first in line of those three. Second would be ESW, and third Sicily.
I just did not find Sicily that interesting. The two TDs on that trip were not the best, and the hotel in Rome had some serious Internet access issues. The after hours access to the Vatican was probably the best part of the tour.
Here's the Adriatic tour - https://www.mikeandjudytravel.com/2019-2Adriatic-01.htm
The England Scotland and Wales tour - https://www.mikeandjudytravel.com/2018EnglandScotlandWales-01.htm
And the Sicily tour, which included Rome - https://www.mikeandjudytravel.com/2018Sicily-01.htm
Croatia would be my first choice for its historical evolution and sheer beauty.
Ever since my first trip to London last year, I have wanted to return to the region.
Sicily - Brief visit after a business trip. I have no desire to return.
Our choice would be Croatia because we haven’t been there. We had it booked for 2020 but of course it never happened and we still haven’t rebooked.
We spent nine or ten days in Sicily last year and loved it. We went to Palermo, Taormina, Cefalu, Ortigia, Modica, Agrigento, Siracusa, Catania, Monreale, Scicili and Mount Etna. We absolutely loved touring all the Roman ruins and old churches. Towns and food. We would go back in a heartbeat.
Obviously, England, Scotland and Wales would be bottom of our list, we have loved in two of the countries and vacationed all over Wales and even honeymooned there 50 years ago.
Might depend on time of year you want to travel.. Both look interesting.
We took The Sicilian Odyssey trip--NOT the one that Mike Henderson is referring to--last year and absolutely loved, loved, loved it. Our TD was one of the best we've every had, and that's saying a lot after 16 tours.
Thanks for all the comments! Claudia, I will more than likely make a spring trip-either April, May or early June. I don’t care for the heat so summer is out. I live in Dallas Tx and get enough heat here!
If you choose either Croatia or Sicily, you might be better going in April, it’s hot even then at times
Fran we too get plenty of heat in NM though at least its dry. We've thought about some of the med tours but would have to be shoulder season. Of course with the UK you can run into some surprisingly warm weather and often no a in the summer.
Fran I just went on the Adriatic Treasures tour last year, it should definitely be number 1 of your choice.
We leave soon for a Treasures tour that includes Sicily and Malta, so not sure of Sicily yet. We love England and Scotland and enjoyed ESW but because like you we've been around England a fair amount, I'd have to give the nod to Croatia as a much more interesting time.
I have never been to Sicily, so I can't speak to that, however, my vote is for Croatia. I visited this lovely Country in 2007 (not with Tauck) and I still have fond memories of my Tour. I visited many of the same Cities on the Tauck Tour including Albania, which was fascinating. I traveled independently to England, Scotland and Wales many, many years ago which is also wonderful. I think you would greatly enjoy Croatia, beautiful scenery, lovely people, great food and interesting history.
I visited what is now Croatia, and then Yugoslavia, in 1982, well before the war. Fascinating place. I'm going back next year with Tauck.
Franlovestotravel - Seems to me the decision might be made based in part on when you want to travel. Going to England, Scotland, and Wales might be a better choice if going in a summer month. Whereas the other two places who be good candidates for the shoulder months - April, May, September, October.
Another thing that might help decide which to pick would be the ease and cost to get to/from each of the three tours.
All three places have their appeal if you have never been to any of them.
We haven't done the ESW trip or Sicily. We have been to England and Scotland. However, we have done 17 tours and Adriatic Treasures is definitely a favorite! Gloria was our tour guide, and she was Serbian. She was one of the best guides we have ever had with Tauck.
Thank you for all your opinions! It helped be to decide that Croatia is where I’ll head next year. I did decide early June would be perfect for me. It looks like Croatia is going to be very popular next year, so make your reservations as soon as you can! Now on to suggestions for pre trip activities. I’m planning on going in 2 days early to tour Dubrovnik on my own. I’ll walk the wall for sure and looking into the Jewish walking tour..
When I was in Dubrovnik in 2021, you needed cash to walk the wall. Credit cards were not accepted. I don't know whether it has changed since Croatia went on the euro. Just be prepared.
We were there last September and used a credit card for the city wall ticket. This is one of my favorite tours.
Guess they've moved into the 21st century!
Keep in mind if you do the wall walk that there is very little shade. So if it is a warm day be sure to factor that into your decision. We did, and we opted to take the cable car to the top of the hill and have the following instead. Others in our party did the walk. They enjoyed it, but were much more hot and tired upon return to the ship. I don't regret our decision.
When I did the wall walk in 1982, there was no fee. Also, the student ticket price for flying anywhere in the country on JAT was $10! One of the advantages of socialism
Sam - Wonderful photo of Nancy!
I'm surprised you can remember anything from 40+ years ago.
Did you have to provide your own parachute?
I visited Italy during the same trip and remembered much of what I saw back then, as well. Are you suggesting I will become more forgetful when I reach your age?
Does hang glider count?
Last year when I took the Adriatic tour I bough the ticket to walk the wall om line before I left.
Not at all, from what I see you’re an overachiever in that category, far exceeding my forgetfulness. 😂
When your posts start ‘When I did this back when I was a boy … (so to speak)’ it reminds me of the Grandpa character in the Pickles comic strip talking to his grandson. 😂
I don't know that comic strip. I did the 1982 trip when I finished med school (or should it now be called provider school?), before internship started. Two months, backpack, Eurailpass. A little less cushy than Tauck...
Here's an example.
